YearMIPEX was launched in 2005 (as the European Citizenship and Inclusion Index) The first edition looked at the policy situation in 2004. The second edition of the Index looks at the state of policies in 2006 with a cut off date of March 1 2007. CountriesIn 2004, MIPEX looked at the policies of the 15 Member States of the European Union. In 2006, MIPEX expanded to cover another 13 countries. 25 Member States of the European Union are included for the latest edition, along with Norway, Switzerland and Canada. Romania and Bulgaria, the two most recent members of the European Union are not included in the study this time around. Both of these countries joined the EU in January 2007, at which point, work on MIPEX had already begun. AveragesHow does your country compare to the European average?
StrandsMIPEX uses an extensive set of indicators to score countries' policies in a number of areas or 'strands'. Indicators are grouped together into dimensions, which examine the same aspect of a given policy, and then into strands, which contain all questions on a given policy area. The indicator scores in each dimension are averaged together to give a dimension score. Each strand therefore has four dimension scores. The average of the four dimension scores in each strand produces a strand score. Each country therefore has six strand scores. Dimensions and strands receive a score out of 100 whilst indicators receive a 1-2-3 score. Find out how countries scored on each strand by clicking on the 'show' button after you have chosen a strand. Alternatively, you can drill down deeper into the results to see how countries preformed on specific aspects or 'dimensions' of policy, or even on individual indicators. DimensionsIf you want to see how the countries that you have selected scored on a specific dimension, make your selection and click on 'show'. Alternatively, go on to explore results for an individual indicator. IndicatorsIt is often difficult to reduce complex policies to a 1-2-3 score. Where the migration experts who scored their country against the indicators were not comfortable that an indicator really captured a specific aspect of policy, they submitted a remark. You can browse the full set of expert remarks. ResultsResults are displayed as either a map or a chart depending on the display type chosen. To see how an individual country scored roll your mouse over the country's result in the chart or map view. Alternatively, below the map or chart is a table of the scores.
